Okay, I waited as long as I possibly could. Although I am fairly certain that this is not a very popular topic, and one that a lot of people would rather avoid... I simply couldn't take it any more and simply had to bring it up. Please comment and give me your thoughts on it. I am dying to know what you think.
I honestly have not been watching the trial on TV or reading about it. I find it unsettling that so many people use these trials as some kinda of soap opera or treat them like a sick reality show. Its not a game, one person lost their life another may lose his freedom. It comes down to the law and he will be found guilty or not guilty due to that. Should he havenbeen following the kid? No! but it doesn't give the kid the right to attack him if that is what he did. Just like Zimmerman did, Trayvon coulve called 911 and reported he had someone following him if it was bothering him. The jury will decide if Trayvon attacked Zman unprovokrd and then if Zman used undue force to defend himself or did fear for his life. That is it in a nutshell, no drama like the media wants, no reality show hype like the followers crave, nothing. Just 12 peeps ruling on the death of a person. It really doesn't matter if one was black and the other Hispanic or if Zman followed Trayvon cuz he was black. It comes down to what the jury believes created the scuffle and whether the force used was unnesccessary. Luckily there will be other human suffering coming soon I'm sure that people can use to get their reality TV fix from , since I find it disgusting Ill pass on that one too.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment- I appreciate you stating your thoughts on this. I agree with you on some things and disagree with you on others. I am not sure at this time if I want to put either one of us through my 10 page essay on what I think- haha. ;)
DeleteMy thoughts on this, well 1st off if I was the DA I would have gone after manslaughter. No question that a life was taken, question is how and only people that know for sure is Zimmerman & Martin.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment. I completely agree with you on both of these things. Apparently the judge ruled that the jury will be able to consider manslaughter. It will be interesting to find out what happens- it won't be long now.
DeleteWell we found out lol.
DeleteTotal bullshit in my opinion, should have been manslaughter.
DeleteTrue to form, I can not keep my mouth shut to save my life. I'm going to spare you the 10 page essay on everything I think about this case and why, but here are some of my thoughts. And don't get it twisted... I do believe that race was a factor in this case, however I do not think it was the only one. This is just some of my life experience- not embellished, all true.
ReplyDeleteI was on the phone with one of my best friends last night, and we were discussing our reactions to the verdict. We were thinking how ironic it is that when we were in our teens and early twenties (which wasn't exactly yesterday- but I refuse to say how long ago it was) that we dressed in baggy jean shorts- with boxers or Calvin Klein underwear showing- oversize Dickies overalls- hoodies and Timberlands. Not joking- (google "TLC" to get the full visual). To this day we both have probably about 30 hoodies in our closets- which we wear on a regular basis- and we occasionally even bust out the Dickies overalls. Luckily we're white females- or we might have been shot and killed by now. We have been stereotyped, though as “those white chicks” that (for the most part) only date brothers (translation for the white people out there that think perhaps we literally date our brothers- brothers means black men). We also primarily only listen to rap and R & B music. We have actually lost our voices in the past from singing along with Mary J. Blige at the top of our lungs- and practically busted out our ear drums from cranking Jay-Z so loud in the car. Not kidding- from the age of 15 we started making up synchronized dances to rap songs and performed them at school talent shows and the under age dance clubs we went to religiously every single weekend. The guys that we hung out with- back then, and now- have always had to worry about where they go and how they are perceived. Even our parents (who we love dearly) have always been skeptical of the men we have dated- because of their race. My parents even asked me one time if I was just “trying to be rebellious” or “trying to make some sort of statement.” WTF???!!! Um, no- I was just born this way. I don't know how else to explain it- probably because I never thought about it in the first place!! And my taste in music and men, has for the most part, never changed. It is what it is. People need to get over it.
Another thing we were talking about is how sad it is that a lot of our friends are struggling to find a way to explain this entire incident to their kids. A lot of them have teenage boys- who are mixed- and let's face it- if you are half black and half white, you are considered black. One of our friends posted on FB yesterday how sad it is that not only has she had to teach her teenage son how to “drive black” to avoid being pulled over, but now she's going to have to teach him how to “walk black.” Pretty powerful shit.
And that's how I see it. :)
Hard to believe that there is no one that has the balls to comment on this topic... but that's cool. I guess it's time to move on. But if this shit ever happens again, you better believe that I will write an entire thesis on the topic. Muah.
